Kibune Shrine
Kibune shrine is dedicated to Takao kami-no-kami, the god of rain and water, also revered as the guardian god tea ceremony (sado), sake brewing, dyeing and overseas travel.
Oku-no-miya
Oku-no-miya is located on the ancient areas of the Kibune shrine. According to legend, a dragon god lives in a hole underneath the main shrine. The shrine also appears in the Noh theater song 'Ox-hour visit to the shrine' or Ushi no koku mairi.
On the way to Oku-no-miya shrine there is the Yui-no-shashiro, a shrine dedicated to matchmaking. It is said that it was visited by the famous Izumi Shikibu to pray for success in her love affairs.
Kurama Temple
Kurama Temple is the head temple of the Kurama-Kokyo sect. In ancient times it was called Mt. Kurabu (dark area) and was believed to be a home to Tengu, supernatural creatures who taught swordsmanship to the young hero Ushikawa-maru.
After paying your respects, walk through the Oku-no-in and Osugi-mao-den and you will arrive at the little village of Kibune and find Hiroya alongside Kibune Shrine.
